In April of 2009, NHRC member, Andy Berger, completed his certification flights (and written exam) for both his NAR Level 1 and Level 2.  Andy has spent the last year pestering NHRC members about all things high-power oriented and had many members review his completed rocket prior to his attempt.
Andy built a customized EZI-65 from LOC/Precision. This 4" diameter kit was configured for dual-deploy with a PerfectFlite MAWD on board.
His L1 flight weighed in at just over 8.5lbs with a Kosdon I-301 motor providing the get up and go.  Straight up flight in moderate winds and a nightmare recovery out of the top of an 85 foot tall tree. No damage and a successful L1 flight completed!  Flight data showed 2,900 feet and just over 500mph
Several weeks later (and after passing the L2 written exam), the same rocket kit was reloaded with a Animal Motor Works J-365 in preparation for a Level 2 certification flight attempt.  With several Level 3 "mentors" hovering around for the initial preparations, the skies were clear and the winds were low.  Time to go BIG TIME.
You can watch the video on YouTube at:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thLvg4Gk-pM
The L2 flight was amazing to watch!  Just shy of 5,000 feet and nearly 700mph. Dual deploy worked flawlessly other than some heavy twisting of the harness. Recovery was about 500 yards from the pad in the open field.
